Sailboats at the Basin at Argenteuil

R350.00
Quick Overview

Sailboats on water - it always looks so tranquil to me.  This picture appealed to me because of the colours and impressionist feel, it looks like it was painted while sitting outside next to the water on a beautiful sunny day.  Such a dreamy state of affairs.

Claude Monet painted this beauty in 1874, in I would imagine the exact way described above.  The boat basin at Argenteuil, with its long promenade and terraced café, was a popular site for watching sailing regattas on the Seine. Monet set up his easel on an island across the river, distinguishing optical effects and textures with strategically varied brushmarks.

This beautiful 40 x 50cm canvas has 27 colours and is challenging.  Each box contains a stretched, printed and numbered canvas, paint, brushes and a page detailing the numbers for an extra reference.
