The Prayer

Felice Casorati was an Italian painter born in 1883.  After he graduated in law, he left that field and devoted himself totally to becoming an artist, which he remained his whole life.

This painting, The Prayer (or And Life Calls) was painted in 1914.  This painting hints at the contact he had with Klimt and other painters of the Viennese Sucession.  Although many critics found Casorati's work cold, cerebral, and academic, he achieved international recognition as a leading figure in this movement and was a successful artist. Often working in tempera, Casorati drew inspiration from his study of Renaissance masters, especially Piero della Francesca.

This painting is currently in the Gallery of Modern Art in Verona.

This beautiful and detailed 40 x 50cm version of his masterpiece is quite a challenge with its 25 colours.  Each box contains a stretched, printed and numbered canvas, paint, brushes and a page detailing the numbers for an extra reference.
